ULTIMATE POWERLINE CONTRACTING RECEIVES POWER OF BUSINESS AWARD

Released on December 12, 2003

SaskPower is recognizing a valued SaskPower supplier by presenting it with a Power of Business award. Government Relations Minister Len Taylor, on behalf of Minister Responsible for SaskPower Frank Quennell, presented an award to Ultimate Powerline Contracting Ltd. at the company's operations in Battleford.

"Working with local companies on supplier issues, and encouraging them to invest and employ people right here at home, is a priority at SaskPower," Taylor said. "SaskPower's commitment to purchase from Saskatchewan companies strengthens local economies across the province."

SaskPower averages over 80 per cent of its purchases from local firms and over the last 20 years has purchased more than $4.1 billion in goods and services from Saskatchewan suppliers.

This is the 14th Power of Business award presented since 1999. The award to SaskPower suppliers recognizes outstanding examples of the talent, innovative thinking and entrepreneurial spirit required to build successful enterprises here at home.

Located in the Battlefords, Ultimate Powerline Contracting began operating in 1988 as a subcontractor, working on projects for SaskPower.

Since 1991, Ultimate Powerline Contracting has contracted directly with SaskPower, completing approximately $16 million worth of work for the corporation. Ten people are employed full-time at Ultimate Powerline Contracting. Work for SaskPower accounts for 90 per cent of its business.

"I have very good working relationships with SaskPower," Ultimate Powerline Contracting president Lee Burt said. "SaskPower is a very good company to work for, they really treat us well."
