NEW SASKATOON JUDGE APPOINTED

Barry Singer, Q.C. has been appointed a judge of the Provincial Court for
Saskatoon.
"Judge Singer is a highly respected member of the Saskatoon legal community
and his extensive experience in criminal, civil and family law will serve
him well in his new role as a Provincial Court judge," Justice Minister
Chris Axworthy said.
Judge Singer has practised law in Saskatchewan for more than 25 years. He
received his Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Saskatchewan in
1974 and began his legal career with the northern office of Legal Aid in
1974. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1995. Prior to his appointment,
Judge Singer practised in association with the Saskatoon firm of Hnatyshyn
Gough.
Judge Singer was a member of the Saskatchewan Legal Aid Commission as
representative of the Law Society of Saskatchewan from 1991 to 1997. He
was appointed a member of the Commission again in 2000 and was appointed
chair in January, 2001.
Judge Singer was first appointed as a member of the Saskatchewan Police
Commission in 1994 and was appointed vice-chair in 1998, a position he held
until late in 2001.
