The Provincial Government is supporting 28 Saskatoon, community-based
organizations in hosting events and activities in celebration of
International Women's Day (IWD) on March 8th. Activities will occur
throughout the month of March.
"One hundred and two Saskatchewan organizations have been provided with
grants of $500 in order to profile an issue that impacts women, raise
awareness about IWD and its significance, and highlight the important work
of these organizations who contribute so much to our quality of life in
Saskatchewan," Minister Responsible for the Status of Women Judy Junor
said.
"In Saskatoon, groups will use the grants to sponsor events that recognize
the social and economic contributions women have made to our communities,
to profile the organization's services, and to discuss issues that impact
their community," Junor added. "I encourage the public to attend these
events."
March 8th is celebrated as International Women's Day around the world. It
is a time to celebrate women's social and economic achievements and reflect
on the challenges that still lie ahead. The theme chosen for this year's
IWD grant program is "The Diversity of Women".
Activities range from educational workshops on issues such as family
violence and poverty to discussions on disability issues, and awards
ceremonies.
Non-profit community-based groups whose primary mandate is to provide
services to women or work toward equality for women were eligible. Groups
from Buffalo Narrows to Hudson Bay to Estevan received grants.
