QUEEN'S COUNSEL APPOINTMENTS

Thirteen Saskatchewan lawyers were honoured with Queen's Counsel (QC)

appointments today.



"I congratulate each of these individuals on being recognized for their

contribution to the practice of law," Justice Minister Chris Axworthy

said. "This designation reflects the esteem in which these lawyers are

held by their colleagues, the courts, the legal profession and the

community."



Queen's Counsel is an honorary designation. Appointees must live in

Saskatchewan and must have practiced law at least 10 years in the superior

courts of any province or territory of Canada, or the United Kingdom and

Ireland.



Individuals receiving the Queen's Counsel designation have been recommended

by a selection committee compromised of the Saskatchewan Minister of

Justice, the Chief Justice of the Court of Queen's Bench for Saskatchewan

or the Chief Justice of the Court of Appeal (on an alternating basis), and

the past presidents of the Saskatchewan branch of the Canadian Bar

Association and the Law Society of Saskatchewan.



The appointments are:



Lloyd Balicki is a lawyer with the firm of Sanderson Balicki

Popescul in Prince Albert. He was admitted to the Bar in 1976;



James Ehmann is a lawyer with the firm of Kanuka Thuringer in

Regina. He was admitted to the Bar in 1981;



Robert Gibbings is a lawyer with the firm of Scharfstein Gibbings

Walen & Fisher in Saskatoon. He was admitted to the Bar in 1981. He is

the Vice-President of the Law Society of Saskatchewan and the Chairperson

of the Saskatchewan Legal Aid Commission;



Douglas Kovatch is a lawyer with the firm of Silversides Kovatch

Zborosky Beauchemin in Regina. He was admitted to the Bar in 1978;



Kenneth Lerner is the Assistant Vice President - Legal at

Saskatchewan Government Insurance. He was admitted to the bar in 1967;



Donald Phillips is Senior Counsel in the Saskatchewan Government

Insurance Legal Department. He was admitted to the bar in 1975;



James Plemel is a Senior Crown Prosecutor with the Saskatchewan

Department of Justice in Saskatoon. He was admitted to the bar in 1975;



Karen Prisciak is a lawyer with the firm of Robertson Stromberg in

Saskatoon. She was admitted to the bar in 1985;



Douglas Richardson is a lawyer with the firm of McKercher McKercher

& Whitmore in Saskatoon. He was admitted to the bar in 1976;



William Roe is a lawyer with the firm of Roe & Company in

Saskatoon. He was admitted to the bar in 1977;



Brenda Walper-Bossence is a lawyer with the firm of Walper-

Bossence Law Office in Moose Jaw. She was admitted to the bar in 1976;



Reginald Watson is a lawyer with the firm of Balfour Moss in

Regina. He was admitted to the bar in Saskatchewan in 1980; and



Donald Worme is a lawyer with the firm of Semaganis Worme & Missens

in Saskatoon. He was admitted to the bar in 1986.
