FUNDING FOR WOMEN'S DAY EVENTS

Released on December 6, 2001

Saskatchewan women's groups and community organizations that support women,

can now apply to the Saskatchewan Women's Secretariat for a $500 grant to

help with the cost of sponsoring an activity or event in recognition of

International Women's Day (IWD) -- March 8th, 2002.

"International Women's Day is celebrated around the world," Minister

Responsible for the Status of Women Judy Junor said. "It is a day for us

to recognize the work women do in pursuit of equality, and to celebrate

their many achievements. It is a day for us to reflect on challenges that

still lie ahead, and to re-energize our efforts as we continue to work

toward our goals."

Non-profit groups are invited to complete a grant application, and return

it to the Women's Secretariat by January 31st, 2002. A group can sponsor

its own activity or join with other groups to sponsor a major event. All

activities or events must focus on a status of women issue, and occur

before March 31st, 2002.

"Women's groups need an opportunity to profile the work they do on behalf

of Saskatchewan women. It is imperative that issues facing women be talked

about so they do not become invisible or go unchecked," Junor said. "These

grants are meant to make this possible."
