GOVERNMENT HOUSE UNVEILS DISPLAY ON SASKATCHEWAN WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP

Supreme Court Justice Claire L'Heureux-Dubé spoke at a luncheon today in her

honour hosted by Minister responsible for the Women's Secretariat Joanne

Crofford and Justice Minister Chris Axworthy at Government House.



Joined by Lieutenant Governor and Mrs. Wiebe, Madame Justice L'Heureux-Dubé

opened a display at Government House recognizing the leadership contributions

of Saskatchewan women.



The display, entitled "Women in Leadership in Saskatchewan," focuses on

Saskatchewan women in governance and features prominently the first women in

the province who served as mayor, First Nations Chief, MLA, Cabinet Ministers,

MP, Senator, judges and our first woman Lieutenant Governor. The display also

includes a section on the women's suffrage movement and the 1929 'Persons Case'

whereby Canadian women gained the status of persons under the law.



The Government House display is open to the public from 1 - 4 pm Tuesday to

Sunday.
