PAVING ANNOUNCED ON HIGHWAY NO. 38

Released on January 14, 1999

Highways and Transportation Minister Judy Bradley today announced

awarding of a 12.6 km paving contract on Highway No. 38 south of the

community of Chelan to Greenwater Lake.

"This project is valued at more than $1.7 million including department

materials and resources," Bradley said. "Paving will be done on

Highway No. 38 starting 7.2 km north of its junction with Highway

No. 349, to 19.8 km north."

G.W. Construction Ltd. was awarded the paving contract as the lowest

of seven bidders. Hauling and stockpiling of project materials will

begin in January and is planned for completion by mid-March. Paving

is expected to begin in early May and planned for completion by

September. An estimated 54 jobs will be used to complete the project.

This project is part of the $44.7 million winter tender schedule

announced by Minister Bradley in November 1998.

"By tendering now as part of the winter tender schedule, we can ensure

more projects are completed as planned," Bradley said. "We are

continuing to work hard to improve our highways right across

Saskatchewan."
