UPSHALL PROCLAIMS FARM WOMEN'S WEEK IN SASKATCHEWAN

Released on January 29, 1998

Agriculture and Food Minister Eric Upshall has proclaimed the week of

Feb. 6 to 12 as Farm Women's Week in Saskatchewan.

The designation this year is in conjunction with the annual conference

of the Saskatchewan Women's Agricultural Network (SWAN) to be held in

Moose Jaw Feb. 6-8.

"The contribution of Saskatchewan's farm women to the success of the

agriculture and food industry in this province is immeasurable,"

Upshall said. "Farm women have always played a vital role in the life

of rural communities and have contributed to the continued prosperity

of Saskatchewan's family farms.

"I am pleased to proclaim this week in acknowledgment of the important

work of all farm women in Saskatchewan."

The SWAN conference, which will launch Farm Women's Week, is open to

all women, whether they live in rural or urban communities, said Linda

Haubrich, a SWAN director and co-chair of the conference.

"The theme this year is Securing Your Future, legally,

financially and emotionally and the discussions will be of

interest to all women," Haubrich said. "Saskatchewan's Minister

Responsible for the Status of Women, Judy Bradley, will be among

the speakers on Saturday, Feb. 7 and the business of the SWAN

annual meeting will be conducted on Feb. 8."
