LLOYDMINSTER WOMEN'S GROUPS RECEIVE INTERNET ACCESS AND TRAINING GRANTS

Released on April 27, 1998

Violet Stanger, MLA for Lloydminster, on behalf of Judy Bradley,

minister responsible for the Status of Women, today presented two

Lloydminster women's organizations with grants to enable them to

access the Internet and train members to use the new communications

technologies.

The Lloydminster Sexual Assault and Information Centre and

Lloydminster Metis Women will both receive $7,000 from the Women's

Organizations On Line Program, an initiative of the Saskatchewan

Women's Secretariat.

"This funding will enable these organizations to network more easily,

access information more quickly and serve the needs of their members

more effectively," Stanger said.

The Lloydminster Sexual Assault and Information Centre provides

counselling services for victims of sexual assault and abuse. It also

delivers public education, training and support programs, as well as

operating a sexual assault crisis line and a youth crisis line.

Lloydminster Metis Women works to build a bridge between cultures, to

support Metis women and their families and to provide Metis women with

the skills and self-confidence necessary to succeed in the paid

workforce and in everyday life.
