Health Minister Clay Serby, on behalf of Judy Bradley, minister
responsible for the Status of Women, today presented two Yorkton
women's organizations with $14,000 in grants to enable them to access
the Internet and train members to use the new communications
technologies.
Yorkton Women in Need (Shelwin House) and Immigrant Women of
Saskatchewan, Yorkton Chapter will each receive $7,000 from the
Women's Organizations On Line Program, an initiative of the
Saskatchewan Women's Secretariat.
"This funding will enable these organizations to network more easily,
access information more quickly and serve the needs of their members
more effectively," Serby said.
Yorkton Women in Need (Shelwin House) provides short term safe shelter
for women and children leaving abusive situations. Services also
include counselling, support and advocacy for abused women and their
children.
Immigrant Women of Saskatchewan, Yorkton Chapter, provides
services to immigrant women to help them adjust to living in
Canadian society. This includes social and cultural activities
as well as skills development and job-readiness programs.
