YORKTON WOMEN'S GROUP RECEIVES INTERNET ACCESS AND TRAINING GRANT

Health Minister Clay Serby, on behalf of Judy Bradley, minister

responsible for the Status of Women, today presented two Yorkton

women's organizations with $14,000 in grants to enable them to access

the Internet and train members to use the new communications

technologies.



Yorkton Women in Need (Shelwin House) and Immigrant Women of

Saskatchewan, Yorkton Chapter will each receive $7,000 from the

Women's Organizations On Line Program, an initiative of the

Saskatchewan Women's Secretariat.



"This funding will enable these organizations to network more easily,

access information more quickly and serve the needs of their members

more effectively," Serby said.



Yorkton Women in Need (Shelwin House) provides short term safe shelter

for women and children leaving abusive situations. Services also

include counselling, support and advocacy for abused women and their

children.



Immigrant Women of Saskatchewan, Yorkton Chapter, provides

services to immigrant women to help them adjust to living in

Canadian society. This includes social and cultural activities

as well as skills development and job-readiness programs.
