PREMIER ANNOUNCES REORGANIZATION OF CABINET

Released on November 22, 1995

Premier Roy Romanow today announced an extensive cabinet shuffle to
reflect the government's focus on jobs and economic growth, continued
sound fiscal management and the redesign of social programs.

"In this context, that is why I have asked Dwain Lingenfelter to remain
in the Economic Development portfolio and to take on new
responsibilities as Deputy Premier which will include overseeing a
number of new economic development and growth initiatives to be
announced in next spring's budget," Romanow said.

"In addition, I am pleased to announce that Bob Mitchell will become
the minister responsible for Post-Secondary Education and Skills
Training. Many of Saskatchewan's current employment training programs
are cost-shared with the federal government. As this funding is being
eliminated, the new minister will be responsible for restructuring the
resources the provincial government provides in these areas.

"Bob Mitchell will also work closely with the new minister of Social
Services, Lorne Calvert, in redesigning Saskatchewan's social
assistance programs to face the challenges posed by federal cutbacks."

Janice MacKinnon will continue in her role as minister of Finance. She
will lead the government's efforts to maintain balanced budgets and
effective public finances in the face of severe federal government
cutbacks.

The following are the other major changes to cabinet:

Berny Wiens becomes minister responsible for Crown Investments
Corporation;

Ned Shillington is the minister of Intergovernmental Relations,
Provincial Secretary and Government House Leader;

Keith Goulet becomes minister of Northern Affairs;

Joanne Crofford becomes minister responsible for Gaming, while
retaining her responsibilities as minister of Indian and M‚tis
Affairs and minister responsible for the Status of Women;

Carol Teichrob becomes minister of Municipal Government;

Eric Upshall is the new minister of Agriculture and Food;

Eric Cline becomes minister of Health;

Lorne Scott assumes the responsibility of minister of Environment
and Resource Management;

John Nilson is the minister of Justice and Attorney General; and,

Clay Serby is the minister responsible for Saskatchewan Property
Management Corporation and the Liquor and Gaming Authority.

The major duties of the remaining members of cabinet are unchanged.

"These extensive changes include the introduction of a number of new
faces. The new members of cabinet are a reflection of the wealth of
ability that exists within the government caucus," Romanow said.
