Economic Development Minister Dwain Lingenfelter said today that thenumber of jobs in the province is up for the eighth month in a row.
The statistics released today show an increase of 5,000 from May to June
and an increase of 1,000 from June of last year. In June there were
473,000 people employed in Saskatchewan. Last month there were 468,000
people working. Last June there were 472,000 people working in the
province.
"More people are finding good jobs in our province as the economy
continues to improve and more companies create new opportunities,"
Lingenfelter said. "Our province's unemployment rate of 5.9 per cent
remains the lowest in Canada.
Lingenfelter said that youth employment in June was up by 4,000 from last
month and up by 2,000 from June of last year. The employment rate for
this age group dropped by 1.1 per cent from last June.
"It is particularly encouraging to see that our province's young people
are sharing the benefits of our expanding economy," Lingenfelter said.
"Our commitment to effective education and training programs such as
JobStart and Future Skills will ensure that this positive trend
continues.
