Core and Sample Repositories

The Saskatchewan Geological Survey maintains a comprehensive repository of drill core and drill cuttings recovered primarily from oil, gas and potash exploration in the southern part of the province. This material, plus rock and mineral samples from mapping of the Precambrian Shield and some northern drill core, is housed in the Subsurface Geological Laboratory, where examination facilities (including a confidential room) are available.

Well and Core Inquiries

The Assistant Chief Geologist of Petroleum Geology can provide authorization for sampling core for destructive and non-destructive testing and for shipping of cores for sampling or otherwise, and details of the terms governing such authorizations.

La Ronge Precambrian Geological Laboratory

The La Ronge office provides geological maps and reports for viewing. Off-confidential assessment work files for northern Saskatchewan, a geological library and other information are available. Mineralized drill hole core and rock samples are available for viewing and testing.
