To ensure that Saskatchewan has the capacity and depth to develop new agricultural knowledge and technologies, the Government of Saskatchewan supports the following research positions dedicated to value-added processing:

Ministry of Agriculture Endowed Chairs

Dr. Rex Newkirk: Feed Processing Technology – Develops and refines feed processing technology and improves feed quality and nutritional value.

Dr. Yongfeng Ai: Carbohydrate Quality and Utilization – Fractionates and utilize plant carbohydrates (pulse starch) in food and feed applications.

Dr. Bishnu Acharya, Bioprocess Engineering – Develops process to produce functional food from waste biomass.

Strategic Research Program Chairs funded by the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership

Dr. Martin Reaney, Lipid Quality & Utilization – Collaborates with industry to ensure commercial relevance of research and supports the growing value-added industry arising from oilseed and lipid utilization.

Dr. Michael Nickerson: Protein Quality & Utilization – Utilizes protein fractions from pulse and cereal crops and oilseed meal for food and feed.
