Funding Programs for Saskatchewan Agri-food Exporters

There are a variety of provincial and national programs available for Saskatchewan agri-food exporters to help build and grow their export businesses through international trade and market development activities.

  • The Ministry of Agriculture Product Development Program promotes the development and expansion of small to medium-sized enterprises by supporting agri-business product development and the marketing of value-added products.
  • Saskatchewan Trade and Export Partnership (STEP) has two separate programs available to Saskatchewan exporters who are STEP members. Programs include:
    • Market Access Program (MAP) supports Saskatchewan exporters domestic and international marketing efforts through participating and/or exhibiting in trade shows, missions or other trade events.
    • Pre Market Funding Program aims to offset the costs of initial market exploration or market development. Funding is available to STEP members in the Pre Market membership category.
    • Materials Translation Program supports translation activities for Saskatchewan exporters to better promote themselves in foreign markets.
  • Global Affairs Canada's CanExport Program provides financial support and personalized advice from experienced trade commissioners that will help small and medium sized enterprises identify potential markets, partnerships, and opportunities to achieve their international business needs.
  • Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's Canada Pavilion Program aims to make trade show participation easier for Canadian companies at the seven premier food and beverage shows around the world.
  • The Market Development Grant (MDG) funding supports industry associations to increase the domestic and international trade capacity and grow demand for Saskatchewan agricultural products, in three ways: in-market development, incoming missions, or trade advocacy.
