Selling Grain to the United States

In preparation for exporting grain to the U.S. producers are advised to:

Understand the rules regulating grain trade between Canada and the U.S. (See Exporting Grain, Oilseeds and Special Crops to the United States document for more information.)
Find a U.S. buyer. (See the U.S. Grain Dealers Licensed by the Canadian Grain Commission in North Dakota and Montana document for more information.)
Decide if you are going to truck your commodity yourself; otherwise you will need access to a licensed transport company.
Consider using a custom broker to facilitate and streamline the paperwork necessary to get your grain across. (See the Licensed Custom Brokers document for more information.)
Consider working with a licensed grain broker. Some Saskatchewan grain brokers already do business in the U.S. Working with a licensed grain broker may be an easy way to get your grain to potential U.S. buyers.
